Financing

Leasing alpacas or obtaining a loan through a bank are 2 common ways of providing capital to start an alpaca business.

Some farms such as ours, offer terms for financing alpaca purchases. The purchaser pays a deposit, then pays the balance, plus interest, over an agreed period. Once the alpaca is fully paid for it is transferred to the new owner.
Interest costs from financing can be claimed against your taxable income making this a very helpful way for buyers to get started.

We also offer packages with special discounts for new breeders.

Talking to your banker
If you are seeking a capital for start up purchases such as breeding stock, barns, fencing, etc., the best place to start is the bank you are currently doing business with.

It is often said that small business people have a difficult time borrowing money. This is not necessarily true. Banks make money by lending money. However, the inexperience of many small business owners in financial matters often prompts banks to deny loan requests. You must know exactly how much money you need, why you need it, and how you will pay it back. You must be able to convince your lender that you are a good credit risk.

Alpacas are not viewed as traditional livestock (especially here in America's dairy-land), so ag-lenders maybe less than eager to lend money for livestock they know nothing about. It's your job, through your accumulated knowledge of alpacas and detailed business plan, to sell your idea.

Once your business plan is in place, commence shopping for alpacas!  Just be sure that your animal's provision requirements will be in place BEFORE they get home.

Enjoy yourself and your animals - It truly is a wonderful life!

...just be careful - they're addictive!
